Borro Boedoor. - Borobudur Temple in Yogyakarta, Java

An beautifully hand colored steel engraving, drawn by W. Purser after an original sketch by J.G. Newman, then engraved by S. Bradshaw. Published by Fisher, Son & Co. This piece shows the incredible monument that is Borobudur - a 9th century Mahayanna Bhuddist temple in central Java, the world's largest Bhuddist temple, that was lost in time and knowledge for centuries. There are 504 small buddhas carved out of stone, and though the engraving only shows one side of the building the bhuddhas and building features are incredbly detailed. There is lush forest surrounding the grounds and even some cattle in the foreground, along with a few people setting up a tent and enjoying the view and wonder of the complex. Wide margins make it very suitable to frame.
